Art Session 2014

Art and Landscape: Bring your Sketchbook and Camera

The Art Session will focus on the aesthetic considerations behind the dynamic composition of a sketched work of art, a painting or a photograph. The Art Session will be conducted by Taimi Poldmaa and  Joannie McGuffin.

The Art and Landscape Session will involve a presentation/demonstration and the opportunity for the participants to do some of their own work. The focus of the session will be an exploration of the landscape, focussing on observation, defining values and simplifying lines.  Taimi Poldmaa, a well-known Algoma artist and art teacher has exhibited in numerous venues, including the Art Gallery of Algoma. Taimi has studied the Theory & Technique of the Group of Seven at the McMichael Gallery, as well as Contemporary Landscape Painting. Taimi comments “art and landscape is about observation, appreciation and exploration – responding to and recording information ” She adds, “All levels of artistic skill are welcome.”

Joannie McGuffin, half of the well-known wild-life adventure and photography team of Gary and Joannie McGuffin, will be considering strategies behind the creation of a well laid-out, professional photograph. Gary and Joannie McGuffin have eight books to their credit including Paddle Your Own Canoe and Paddle Your Own Kayak.   – A link to Taimi’s website.

A Wawa Moment: Coach Tour of the Town of Wawa

Wawa’s history is rich in mining, forestry and the fur trade. (Deposits of iron ore discovered in 1897 played a role in the building of the Algoma Central Railway.) Echoes of this history are still to be found in Wawa today.
