Group of Seven & Glenn Gould 2014 Train Event Agenda 

Friday, September 19th

Groups One & Two: Evening Reception and Presentation at the Art Gallery of Algoma, 10 East Street, Sault Ste. Marie The presentation will consider this year’s featured Group of Seven artist,  A.Y. Jackson and his expriences in Algoma. Glenn Gould and his Algoma adventures will also be considered.

Saturday, September 20^st

Group One: 8:30am – assemble at ACR Train Station, Station Mall, 129 Bay Street, Sault Ste. Marie

9:20am – departure from ACR Train Station (Note: on occasion passengers are bussed to, and board the train, at the station in the Essar Steel train yard.) As train travels north, a narration by Art Historian and Researcher, Michael Burtch, will describe the various locations where members of the Group painted along the ACR corridor almost a century ago. The narration is illustrated with enlarged reproductions of the works that were painted at these locations.

3:00pm – arrive at Hawk Junction, tour Hawk Junction Station and board coach to Wawa; 4:00pm – arrive in Wawa, check into Wawa Motor Inn (frequented by Glenn Gould during his trips to the Wawa area.)

6:00pm – join Group Two for dinner at Wawa Motor Inn, followed by presentation on Glenn Gould by Musicologist, Dale Innes

Group Two: 8:30am – 4:00 – board AJ Bus Lines coach at ACR Station, Station Mall. Travel up the Lake Superior coastline, “one of Canada’s most magnificent drives” with stops at lookouts and points of interest including Lake Superior Provincial Park. Arrive in Wawa area and enjoy ‘In the Footsteps of Glenn Gould’ coach and walking tour, visiting  those scenic areas around Wawa and along Lake Superior that inspired Gould.

4:00pm – check into Wawa Motor Inn (frequented by Glenn Gould during his trips to the Wawa area.)

6:00pm – join Group One for dinner at Wawa Motor Inn, followed by presentation on Glenn Gould by Musicologist, Dale Innes

Sunday, September 21^nd

Groups One & Two 8:00 – 9:00am – breakfast at Wawa Motor Inn

9:15 – 10:45am– Choice A  Art Session: A presentation- demonstration with Taimi Poldmaa  and Joannie McGuffin on “Art and Landscape”. Bring your Sketchbook or Camera.

9:15 – 10:45am – Choice B “A Wawa Moment” – Coach Tour of Wawa

Group One 11:00am – 2:00pm  – ‘In the Footsteps of Glenn Gould’: coach and walking tour of those scenic areas around Wawa and along Lake Superior that inspired Gould. 

2:30 pm – departure for Sault Ste. Marie by coach, following the Lake Superior coastline. There will be stops including points of interest and Lake Superior Provincial Park on the beautiful drive south.

6:00 pm – arrive at ACR Train Station, Station Mall.

 Group Two 11:00am – board coach and travel to Hawk Junction. Tour Hawk Junction Station.

12:00pm – catch Sault Ste Marie bound ACR train.
